Rep. Kevin  Schreiber

101 S George St

York, PA 17401

Dear Rep. Schreiber ,

My name is Kevin Schreiber and I am the state representative for the 95th Legislative District in Pennsylvania, which encompasses the City of York and several surrounding municipalities.  York is home to the York County Heritage Rail Trail, which was recently voted the “State Trail of the Year” by the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.  I am writing you to bring to your attention an exciting and ambitious rail trail project that has the potential to bring great benefits to our region.  I would like to invite you to be part of the State and Local Government Commission for the Grand History Trail.

The Grand History Trail is a project to unite the many rail trail systems in our region into a grand trail that will connect in a loop running through York, Gettysburg, Frederick, Washington DC, Annapolis, and Baltimore.  I have attached to this letter a fact sheet put together by the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy to better explain the project.  On this fact sheet, you will also see that this project has many excellent partners behind it in both the public and private sector.  What I am attempting to do is to put together a commission of all the stakeholders in local and state government to help move this project forward.

As I said before, this project has the potential to reap great economic and social benefits to our communities.  This first of its kind trail will bring new tourism to our region, benefiting our hotels and other tourist related businesses.  It will also offer our citizens a unique opportunity to explore the rich history of the region while taking part in healthy exercises such as hiking, jogging, and biking.

If you (or in some multi-member constituencies, another member of the district) would be interested in taking part in this commission, please respond in writing to my district office at 101 S George St, York, PA 17401 by March 25th, with a tentative first meeting date in April.  I look forward to working with you in bringing this worthy project to fruition.

Sincerely,

Kevin Schreiber
