I want to thank the members of the North York Rotary for inviting me to speak on the Grand History Trail this morning. They were quite receptive, and asked many good questions on the importance of the trail to the community. The concept needs all the local support we can muster. Rotarians have always been the “movers and shakers” of…

Pennsylvania Secretary for the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Cindy Dunn and I dropped in on WITF’s Smart Talk today to discuss (what else?) the Grand History Trail. Listen to the interview here.
Smart Talk for Grand History Trail on March 1st
At 9 AM on March 1st, I will be talking about the Grand History Trail with Scott Lamar on Smart Talk on WITF. I’m hoping Cindy Dunn can join me too. She is the Secretary of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. This is a great place to publicize the trail and I want to thank WITF for the…
A Great Meeting With Frederick County Bikers
Yesterday We had a very productive meeting with members of the Frederick County Bike Coalition to discuss their involvement with the Frederick section of the Grand History Trail. They have agreed to plan the best route through the county north to Emmittsburg. They also are going to prepare a proposal for the trail to be submitted to the Frederick County…
A Super Supporter of the Grand History Trail in Frederick County
Yesterday I traveled to Jefferson, Maryland to meet with an avid cyclist interested in the Grand History Trail. Joe Kelley has been riding bikes since he was a kid. He has been thinking of creating a trail from Frederick to Gettysburg for the last 25 years. He knows many cyclists in the area as well as community leaders and politicians.…
Reinforcement from The Rails to Trails Conservancy on the Grand History Trail
Last week I met with the President of the Rails to Trails Conservancy, Keith Laughlin, and his staff who have been working on the Grand History Trail – Kelly Pack and Jim Brown. It was a very good meeting with Keith. He was updated on the progress we have been making, and thoroughly endorses the concept of the GHT. He…
Good Meeting with Secretary of DCNR of Pennsylvania
Cindy Dunn is enthusiastic about the Grand History Trail. In a Meeting with her last week, she pledged support to help with the Pennsylvania portions of the loop that need to be completed. We are now waiting for the budget to be approved to establish the political commission.
York Rail Trail added to hall of fame
Heritage Rail Trail County Park and the Torrey C. Brown Trail in Maryland were inducted into the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy’s Hall of Fame on Tuesday. I’m obviously thrilled about the boost the distinction will give this 44-miles stretch of trail – one component of the proposed Grand History Trail I’ve been advocating for. Here’s a link to a full article about…
Heritage Rail Trail and Torrey C. Brown Rail Trail named Trail of the Month
It’s been an incredible couple months for the Grand History Trail. In addition to our very productive and well received six-day ride around the proposed trail route last month, the national Rails-to-Trail Conservancy named Pennsylvania’s Heritage Rail Trail County Park and Maryland’s Torrey C. Brown Rail Trail the Trail of the Month for September. Here’s an excerpt from an article…
Ride to promote Grand History Trail a success
I recently returned from a six-day, group cycling trip in support of the Grand History Trail. Ten or so of us left York on Sept. 5 to ride (and drive – I spent some time in the support vehicle) along the proposed route and raise awareness for the project. We’re thrilled about the amount of coverage we received on the ride. Here’s a roundup…
