Every so often you have a chance to take the time to really say thank you. I was lucky enough to travel to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan last week to meet my college mentor/professor who changed my life. Robert N. Thomas has touched many people in his long and distinguished career as a geographer at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and later at Michigan State University. I know this is true for me. Without his guidance I doubt I would have graduated from college. We have been friends for over 48 years and last week I got to see him and his wife Dorothy again for dinner. It was a joyful time. I am grateful for all that he has done.
